You are being watched

Yesterday was meant to be peak heat for this 4th heatwave of the summer although in the event it was a bit cooler which was welcome.  LesleyAlsford and l headed east of London about 35 minutes away to Waltham Abbey.  On the outskirts of the country's oldest Augustinian Abbey are the Cornmill meadows which have a reputation for butterflies and dragon flies, sadly not many in evidence.  We did wander around the old Abbey but did not go inside as there was a service in progress.  The abbey itself seemed a bit of a hotch potch with stones and bricks from eras and rebuilds going back over 14 centuries.  One of the churches built on this site was built by King Harold 2nd who fought and died in the Battle of Hastings, he is thought to be buried here (mind you he is also thought to be buried in Bosham in West Sussex where he had a palace)
