Public transport in the country

My car had to go to the Audi main dealer, about 10.5 miles away. I'm waiting to hear from them but that's another story.

I got it there as soon as they opened and shortly after, I headed for home.

There used to be a bus to Lichfield not far from there but that pretty but lengthy rural ride through lots of villages no longer runs. I had to walk to the edge of the main out of town shopping centre. It was quite a way for me but I tackled it and asked a couple of locals about the buses. Nobody knew.

I found a bus stop and a bus to Tamworth was showing on the sign but when its time arrived, the notification vanished. I googled a bit and wondered what next, but a bus came into view.

The driver wouldn't accept my bus pass (before 9.30 in one of the counties that are fussy.) The driver gave me cryptic directions to where the Lichfield bus went from. Luckily, a lovely lady made sure I found it.

Super bus driver and it was a relatively speedy service. A bus had broken down there and I luckily spotted my local bus as it emerged from behind the stranded vehicle. All straightforward then.

It's quite a walk (over half a mile) to my home. It was getting very hot so I took it gently.

It took over 2 hours to get home (10.5 miles you may remember.)

I took this summer rural photo en route...but, in the light of local proposals to use green belt beautiful land for an enormous housing estate, it really made me think.

There are no shops, doctors or schools near my home.
The road system, even with potholes, just can't cope.

Why is it only London where public transport is taken seriously ?

Rant over....
