Sulk Rooms and James Adrian Brown

I little while back, I saw an advert for a gig featuring two electronic artists whom I wanted to see, taking a place in a venue I'd never been to; Shoegaze Café on Tibb Street in the Northern Quarter.

The Minx and I met Simon at our office and walked across to Maricarmen in Ancoats, where we met up with Hannah and had a bite to eat.

After that we walked down to the venue, which was so compact that I could see why it had been limited to 35 tickets. That said, Hannah didn't have one but the girl on the door waved her in anyway.

Man, it was warm in there, causing some Brownian motion at the human scale as people gently drifted from the café onto the street and back.

The available drinks were a coffee flavoured stout and espresso martinis, which certainly matched the venue's identity but made for an odd evening's refreshment.

Both acts were of the semi-improvised variety, with James Adrian Brown (Extra) on first. followed by Sulk Rooms (main photo). Both performed with quite a bit of energy, especially given the temperature on stage, although the music itself was still at the ambient / drone end of the scale.

But much as I enjoyed the gig, it was a relief to get 'round to Flok for an al fresco drink of a non coffee-based nature afterwards.
