A Culinary Consolation
Today was the usual Sunday food shop followed by our customary pint at The Horseshoes and then on the way home we thought we would have another attempt at getting some images of the Amazing Thailand Festival at Lockmeadow in town after yesterday's abject failure to do so.
This time we arrived just after lunchtime but unfortunately it still felt as underwhelming as yesterday. Again there were relatively few people around and although there was a stage set up there did not appear to be nearly as many performers as there were at last year's event. When we were in attendance there was a guy there belting out cover versions of pop songs and whilst he was very good it wasn't entirely what we were expecting.
The consolation was culinary as there were a myriad of stalls selling food which were giving off gloriously hunger inducing aromas so I thought I would capture an image of one for today's shot - this particular stall was colourfully decorated and I loved the combination of the flags and differently patterned fabrics and how vibrantly dressed one of the customers was.
Of course after inhaling all those aromas we just had to try some of the food. We settled on on some pork and chicken skewers with their own spicy and slighly fiery dipping sauces. They were utterly delicious!
Just before we'd sat down to devour our skewers we were approached by one of the performers who said she had seen us taking pictures here last year as well and would like to have some images for her social media to help promote her performances. So after we'd eaten we had a lovely chat and exchanged details so we could forward some of the images we'd taken today and from last year. We hope she likes them.
We left again feeling a little frustrated that we'd not got more images but just as we were heading back to the car we were stopped by a guy (we later found out his name was Steven) who'd noticed our cameras and asked us if we'd got any good pictures today. We explained we'd just been at the festival at Lockmeadow. He was nattily dressed and had two white Staffordshire bull terries in tow - one on a lead and the other in a pram, which is not something you see every day!
We had a great chat taking in photography, our Scottish heritage (my brother was wearing his Scotland Euro's t-shirt) and Northern Soul music (I was wearing a Northern Soul t-shirt). It turned out he was a huge Northern Soul fan originally from Stoke On Trent and had been going to clubs in his hometown, Wigan and Leeds to listen to (and sometimes dance to) the music going back to the 70's and how the scene is still thriving to this day. He even recommended a film called "Soul Boy" based on the scene. We shook hands at the end and he said he hoped we enjoyed the rest of our day. What an interesting guy and a completely unexpected but entertaining conversation!
