Back in Canada

I have family in Canada and travel here each year.  It all fits in nicely at the end of my time in Europe.

In one of those random memory events that we all tuck away, the fire hydrants here always appeal to me in some quirky way.  I'm pretty sure it's because they always featured in illustrations in kids' books I read umpteen decades ago when I was young(er)!  There are no such items on the streets in New Zealand.

And of course the orange pole - over a metre high - is there to make the hydrants more visible when the winter snow arrives and hides them.  All in all a small and signifant indicator of a much different winter climate.
