Calne Town Gardens (Friday 15th August 2025)

I walked into town today to buy fish and chips for lunch. They were eaten on the bench seat shown in the blip. Archie's new battery has been tested and seems absolutely fine.

Irma Thomas - Time Is On My Side (recorded 16 April 1964, New Orleans)
Another Jerry Ragovoy song, also found on Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures (Vol. 4). It was written for the trumpeter Kai Winding with a minimal lyric but when Irma Thomas recorded it new lyrics were added by session singer Jimmy Norman. It was recorded for a B-side but this stereo version was remade for her album Wish Someone Would Care. The song proved popular and was soon covered by Eddie Floyd and Wilson Pickett. The Rolling Stones recorded it twice, with Mick Jagger copying Irma Thomas's ad libs, and the Moody Blues chose it as B-side for their follow-up to Go Now.
