Bob and Roberta Smith

Packed a lot in today.

First thing I watered Rachel’s jungly garden which was humid after yesterday’s thunderstorms.  The scent of phlox hung heavy and the magnolia grandiflora had a new bloom that I could pull down and smell.

Carried on with the book I’m reading for work before catching a train into the office for an important meeting that turned out to be a bit of a damp squib. It ran on though and I had to rush-walk down to join V for a long planned visit to the Summer Exhibition which ends on Friday.  We raced round as I was joining my boys for an evening in Stratford. The exhibition was the customary mix of fun, crazy, inspiring and banal.  We  hunted down the few artists we knew and the greats, Tracy Emin, Jock McFadyen and Bob and Roberta Smith (see pic).

Then I peeled off and got to Stratford quickly, thanks to the Lizzie line. Rory was already there and the children were climbing all over him in delight to have this legend in their midst.  Once they’d gone to bed we had what B called ‘British Chinese’ food from Uber Eats and talked until R went home.  I was shattered!
