Ferns, ferns and more ferns!
Today my friend Tim and I set off at 7.30am to drive to Falkland Palace in Fife, a 110 mile journey which took three hours. We met up with another eight members of the British Pteridological Society (aka the Fern Club) in the Stables café on the Falkland Estate where we all introduced ourselves - though most of them we knew - then set off up up Maspie Den, a strange name as it's really a glen!
Mostly forestry, though loads of bridges and waterfalls, though there wasn't much water about. My Blip today shows one of our members as seen through a mini-waterfall! Amazing geology and vast numbers of ferns which kept everyone happy. It was quite a hike, walking upwards for an hour and a half! We stopped for a picnic on the way back down, then passing this amazing cottage - my extra - we drove a few miles away to the home of the daughter of one of our members who lived in an amazing converted church. After a walk round their ferny garden and a tour of their incredible house, we set off home again, arriving at 8pm after another three hour drive. Quite a drive and the sun shone all day long!
