Progress Report
Since it's all I've been doing in my free time, I decided to post a picture of the blocks completed so far. I've put them up in the order they've been made, but they will ultimately be assembled in and entirely different order into an entirely different shape. That part will remain a mystery for now.
The weather is a bit cooler today, but John's shoulder isn't feeling much better so we ventured out only long enough to give a Spike a little walk up and down the street today. I went up and picked yet more tomatoes, a lot of zinnias, and one monster zuccchini hiding underneath some leaves. There is inevitably one of these that manages to escape our notice and keep growing. I picked it, but if there is another one, I think I'll just leave it there and see how big it gets!
We had tomato and hummus sandwiches on olive bread for lunch today, (extra) and shared a caprese salad with the neighbors for dinner last night. The tomatoes in the sandwiches are called ananas noir (Black Pineapple) and are one of my favorites. They have a wonderful flavor and are beautiful when sliced as well.
We spoke with Tim the other night who called to tell us that Owen is now a licensed California driver. He and the family, along with Joni's nephew Ethan went down to Matt's for a little family R&R last week. Matt and Amy, who have been amicably separated for several years have now decided to get an amicable divorce. Both of them have met new people and they have bought a new house for Amy a few blocks away. That leaves Matt rattling around in a very big house with a separate living unit, so I'm curious to know what he will decide to do...I guess they will share custody of Gus, their little dog, and Irma, their lovely housekeeper who has been practically part of the family since the girls were little....
We're going to Dana and Jim's for dinner tonight since Will who has been here all week will be driving back to San Diego tomorrow. Peter started his teaching year on Tuesday when the schools started again after the summer break. As far as I'm concerned it is still summer, and this seems very early to start the Fall semester. Neither Peter nor Will likes tomatoes (wot?) but I'm taking another batch over to Dana along with some giant carrots....
