Scarborough harbour

The weather forecast was not looking promising for a full day's walk so we headed out to the old brick works and alum mine near the house for a bit of an explore. The path took us past a small pond and we spent a while watching the huge blue and green dragonflies patrol up and down.

The cliff has been mined for alum in the past and then a brickworks appeared (supposedly to build the new holiday resort of Ravenscar - but it never took off). It was interesting trying to work out what the remnants of buildings were.

After lunch we headed towards Scarborough and arrived just as it started to rain. We took in a few shops and then did a long walk around the town, up to the castle and along the bay. I haven't seen a British seaside town for a few years and it was quite depressing seeing the whole sea front dedicated to amusement arcades, fish and chip shops, tattoo parlours and tacky souvenir shops. The North bay was much nicer.
