This is the main road through our village

This is causing problems.
Although it is the main road through our village it is by no means a "main road", it is a good country lane at best. It is however the most convenient "drain" for several other villages to and from the main road that connects Norwich and the coast to Kings Lynn, Lincolnshire and the Midlands.
There is an official diversion and I suppose some people follow it. Most people who use Google maps as their satnav will find other, much shorter routes. What Google maps does not mention is many of these alternative roads are very narrow and twisting, sometimes single track with grass in the middle instead of white lines. Locals know the roads, know the passing places, know the bends etc. Google map followers do not and I suspect when they get on some of these roads they get scared. That's why they drive far too fast and are not considerate to other road users. Delivery van drivers, with their tight time scales sometimes fall into this category as to spotlessly clean big 4X4 drivers.
Today I had a "standoff" with another car that was very reluctant to reverse 2 or 3 car lengths to a point where we could pass each other. I am sure my smile and friendly wave of thanks when they finally moved back helped them on their way.
