Gannet

We were up at 5:20 to get the boat to the Bass Rock to look at Gannets. There was a little haar, but it lead to nice even light for blips. At this time of the year you only get a small way up the rock but are in a flattish area surrounded by Gannets squabbling and looking after their chicks. They are graceful in the air but land with a bump before stumbling about. The population has suffered from avian flu but is coming back now as there is a developing immunity. We had about 2.75 hours on the rock so I have rather a lot of blips to sort out. The extras are an adult Gannet and a Juvenile Gannet which is rather cute in its downy coat that is gradually being replaced by proper feathers. The blip is a Gannet coming into land. A great trip worth the cost.

Best on black.
