Rose of Sharon
We had some rain overnight, there was almost 2 inches in my rain gauge this morning. Official records seem to be in the 15 - 20 mm range for most areas. It wet the top half inch of soil, but anything deeper than that is still dry. By the time we started work at 8:30 the grass had already dried off.
Before I moved here last fall the landlord had cut three large shrubs down to the ground, but did not remove the roots. When I planted some things last fall I had the guys dig out one of the shrubs. Of course both the forsythia and the honeysuckle that were left put on about 3 - 4 feet of growth this summer. I cut the forsythia down twice to try to keep it from taking over the flower bed. Today I had the guys remove the roots of both shrubs. Now I have more room to plant things.
Three more weeks before we go on our Moncton trip. We had another planning meeting tonight. It will depend on the weather for some activities.
