Upended

I love to look for shapes in rock formations, but today I was not alone and couldn't devote the time. Instead, I had to be content with the overall patterns, which isn't such a bad thing. They are fascinating.

To think these layers have been upended, originally formed (I assume) laying flat horizontally. Considering they went on for a significant distance along the shoreline, that is how deep, at least, the layering would have been. And consequently, it gives an indication of the time period over which they were formed.
