Hard to beat
Thank you all for the comments, stars and hearts on my celebratory blip the other day, much appreciated!
As ever I am catching up a bit with my posts!
Ian fancied trying these new versions of Jaffa cakes. I haven’t given them a try as the original Jaffa cake just has to be one of those things that is hard to beat!
And I also have a soft spot for Jaffa Cakes as they give me a good bit of case law to use. There was a case back in 1991 which centred around whether Jaffa Cakes were cakes or biscuits for VAT purposes. Who knew a VAT case would end up so fascinating!
If you are interested it was decided that Jaffa cakes are cakes (obviously in my opinion!) and not biscuits , meaning they are zero rated for VAT as a staple food necessity rather than standard rated like chocolate covered biscuits as a luxury item.
The fact that Jaffa Cakes harden when they go stale like cakes rather than soft/soggy like biscuits was a key argument in McVitie’s successful argument that they were cakes.
