Arcticum Rovaniemi

Steinbock_Travels Day 51
A really cute start to the day, a little bunny running around where we parked. It was quite a long drive to Rovaniemi, and the first stop was the Iveco service center. The windscreen washer hose was broken, so we got the parts easily there. Also we wanted to check the tyre pressure, but that was somewhere else. Rovaniemi is very touristy and has a huge Santa village on the Arctic Circle. One of the highlights for us was the Arcticum museum, what a super place, about natural history and the Winter War. The Fins sided with the Germans for most of the war, as the Germans helped them fend off the Russian invasion in late 1939. As the Fins changed sides near the end of the war, everything in Rovaniemi and the surrounding area was burned to the ground. It was all very well explained in the museum. After a walk around the town, somehow it wasn’t so easy to find somewhere to park up for the night. Eventually I found an ok spot in a quiet car park near the Korouoma gorge.
