Long-tailed tit outside my window
I had an unusual sight whilst looking out of my study window. A goldfinch was on the feeder but it was feeding a juvenile. It seems so late in the season for a second brood. The juvenile was perched on the feeder whilst its parent stuffed sunflower seeds into its mouth, as if it had only just fledged. It certainly didn't know how to eat from the feeder itself.
By the time I'd fetched my camera there was no sign of the goldfinches. I watched the usual blue and coal tits flitting onto the feeders, one of which is just below my window and offers suet pellets rather than sunflower seeds.
This long-tailed tit perched here for some seconds, whilst it surveyed the scene. I saw it was observing me, and I know that the long-tailed tits in particular are not too afraid of my close proximity. Sometimes I can stand less than a yard from the suet feeder and they will still fly to feed there.
Today for the first time I saw a small detail above its eyes; a sort of brown eye brow projection. If you go large you might be able to see it.
I've also added an Extra of it seconds later after it had just taken off to fly to the feeder. I love the beautiful design of its body and wings. Sadly it flew out of focus although the detail in the feathers at the far end of its tail are fairly sharp.
