San Martín de Escoto
The concejo de Parres, where this church is located, has in a number of publications (which still exist) suggested that San Martín is a 16th century building. That´s highly misleading - not only does it look pre-romanesque, not only did it belong to a nearby convent which disappeared in the 15th century, but it´s also mentioned in church histories from the 10th century. Possibly partly because of that age attribution, and also certainly it´s off main roads, San Martín´s not well known. My main photo shows the old church from the south. In its current publicity Parres actually says only that the two doorways, on the south and west walls, are 16th century. Extra 1 shows the west wall. Extra 2 shows a wall marking near the south entrance. Extras 3, 4 and 5 show wall markings on the west wall. Extra 6 is a prospect from the north east.
