Standoff
Spike's feeling a bit neglected today and I'm feeling a bit beleaguered, but things seem to be settling down now. The fact that it is 99F (34C) outside doesn't help.
We set off this morning to pick up a prescription for stronger pain pills for John and take Spike for a walk. John was supposed to pick up the pills yesterday after his meeting with Dan but he forgot about them. They weren't ready anyway nor were they ready this morning. It took two more trips to the pharmacy and several fruitless attempts to communicate by phone but I finally got it.
More device frustration ensued when we tackled the health portal on John's computer. An hour of frustration finally yielded success and the x-ray report on John's shoulder was 'calcific tendonitis of rotator cuff' (calcium deposits in the tendon) with a note from the doctor saying the injection she had ordered would help with the pain.
Another foray into the sports medicine phone tree labyrinth finally revealed that the first appointment was for September 7th. At least we were talking to a real person who did note that it was marked 'urgent' and said she would put a message through to see if things could be expedited. Eventually they called back with an offer of an appointment next Wednesday. In the meantime, I've rigged up a sling so he can relax his arm, administered medication and assured him he won't die. Since he can't go outside he's rested and said it feels better. Wonders never cease.
In the meantime, Spike has tried all his tricks to
a) distract and disrupt
b) convince us to throw his Kong
c) peeking in the door to lure us out.
All is calm now so I'll throw his prickle ball up and down the hall....
