Diary of an Edinburgher

Verona Day 3

The performance last night was magnificent. But a slight momentous technical error in the booking (moi) meant that the seats that I THOUGHT I had booked were not, in fact, actual seats. They were the dreaded humungous STEPS!!! We’ve had experience of them, many years ago…

So humungous, that getting there was a trial in itself. And then we couldn’t lean back]/i] because peoples’ legs were there!!! MOST UNCOMFORTABLE!

However, if you could get through the complete and utter DISCOMFORT for three hours, the performance was amazing. The sets, the costumes, the singing, the lighting, the special effects, the orchestra - it was magical.

Very late back, but up and out early this morning a) to change seats for Sunday’s performance and b) to whizz over the river on the HOHO bus. Both were accomplished, with a bonus coffee and custardy croissant in a back street on the way.

Happily, the new seats we got were on a promotion, at €100 saving!!

We then took the first blue bus over the river and up to the castle. They stop for photos. We wee there yesterday in the rain and mist. Then we got off back over the river and explored that area of the city, which somehow we hadn’t explored on our last visit. Fantastic! Wee streets, cafes, nice shops, and then you’d come upon a huge open square with wonderful buildings, statues and monuments. And, though by this time it was very hot, there was always a shady side to walk on.

Back to the hotel for a rest, and a glass or two of fizz, before heading out again.

We headed out to do the last bit of the two bus tours. But as we crossed the park, occasional huge dollops of rain began falling… then, almost immediately, it was torrential rain!! NO warning on my weather app. We stood under a tree with a crowd of wet folk for a while, which was pointless. We were well and truly DROOKIT!

Back to the hotel, soaked through, we abandoned that idea in favour of just relaxing. JR popped out to buy food.

Thunder has been rumbling all afternoon. Glad we’re not going to the Arena tonight.
