Never Play With Knives
The Festival Fringe ends officially on Monday and so I thought it was probably time I bit the bullet and walked home from my Princes Street shopping by way of the High Street to absorb some of the atmosphere. It was a slow amble through the crowds but it was early enough at 10:30 that there was no street theatre in progress. It was a sea of people mostly wending their way up towards the Castle.
Fast forward 4 hours and I was on the move again through George Square to Nicholson Street where everyone was crowded in the streets eating- hundreds and hundreds of people all devoted to eating -at wooden tables, sitting on the kerb, and eating on the hoof. At least, I thought, when I get beyond George Square it should quieten down but I had forgotten to factor in all the events taking place at the Pear Tree, Surgeons Hall, the Festival Theatre and the Museum. The crowds were awesome and intimidating in equal measure- a raw flow of humanity.
My main blip is of a young man juggling large knives while balancing at height on a board placed on a cylinder on its side. He attracted a large crowd blocking the entrance to George Square.
My extra was taken on my way home this morning.
