I needed some essentials in to see me through the weekend . . . milk, eggs, potatoes and a few more. I had a very early drive to Windermere, parking at Millerground for photos on the way.

I didn’t realise until after I’d taken a lot across the lake that there were hundreds, more likely thousands, of tiny flying insects above the water waiting to sabotage my shots. It was only when I zoomed in for one that I noticed them. By moving left and a little higher I got the shot above. They’re still around but not as obvious.

As I was leaving (at 7.30) the morning swimmers were arriving.
