Village of Insomniacs
SATURDAY
Living the wild life, I was asleep by 10:30 pm last night, which meant I was wide awake at the ungodly hour of 6:00 am.
Though it’s been several months since I last did Parkrun, I felt the urge to exercise, so at 7:30 am I set off for a run down to the river and back. The route covered 5.25 kilometers, with a 100-metre elevation gain on the return leg. I finished in 36 minutes and 3 seconds—not particularly fast but I was happy with the time.
The village, usually deserted, felt more like a secret society of insomniacs quietly starting their day. I was surprised at the number of people already up and about at 7:30 on a Saturday - not just walking dogs but tending gardens and watering plants.
