Cactus flowering

The first of the five flowers has opened.
I overslept this morning which is unusual. I had woken about 5am and been to the loo and sort of half woken up a couple of times but I was waiting for the alarm and it didn't arrive!
It's been hot today - too hot for my liking but I went for a walk and I didn't take my UV umbrella as I had factor 50 on and enough to carry but I wished I had taken it as it definitely makes for a cooler walk.
Garden jobs this afternoon but I found it hard in the heat. I enlisted Terry's help top dig a plant out. I say a plant....but it was three. I had a ceanothus in a corner of the front garden near the gate but somehow a cotoneaster sprang up amid it and took over quite a lot. It meant it was too difficult to just dig out the cotoneaster and so we had to get rid of all three. We popped a plant in that I had in a pot till recently and that I had planted out but then realised it was not in a good place as it would soon be too big for that spot. This is now in the ex-ceanothus spot and I hope grows fast!
I have put a load of cat repellant around the plant as freshly dug or loose soil encourages the local cats to use that place as a toilet and I am sick of shifting cat poo.
