There are several types of boats in this photo of Granton Harbour. For many years it was a working harbour importing and exporting cargo with some shipbuilding too until commercial trading ceased in 1974. Now a large part of the western harbour has been filled in and used for commercial and industrial units and more recently residential developments
The majority of boats seen here are pleasure yachts although there is a kayak just visible in the distance and anchored beyond the breakwater is the "Viking Vela" on its four week cruise from Sweden and Norway then round Britain and its orange tender boats ferrying passengers to and from nearby Newhaven.
