Yew Berry
Every part of the taxus baccata is very poisonous which is a shame because the berries look so appealing. This is the reason Yew trees are seen in churchyards. Yew was a much needed flexible wood for longbows. Churchyards were enclosed areas where animals weren't allowed so browsing sheep and cattle were kept away from them.
It's been a busy day with setting up our village hall ready for a children's Holiday Club the church are running this week. My part in the week will be projecting the words for songs, for which I've created a PowerPoint Presentation and I also ring a bell.
Last year when a timekeeper was needed to move groups between activities, I said I had a bell so I've got the job again this year. I've also been in charge of ordering T-shirts for the children.
When I got home The Man showed me the work he had been doing in the garden to make my little woodland garden tidy. It was there that I saw the berries on the yew.
