Tuesday in Train

We have quite a few "train" cities in Michigan, but one stands alone. Durand, Michigan. So much so that their high school sports teams are the Durand Railroaders.

As a family, we had a history with the city. Dad was a minister in Owosso, but we lived in Grand Blanc, and had to travel through Durand to get to and from church. We used to take bets on whether we would be stopped by a train, and we usually were.

There was also a soft-serve ice cream stand in Durand, where the cones went for 10 cents. But, they also had bags of chips for 10 cents, too. So, the decision had to be made...a cone or chips. You couldn't have both. Good memories, even if you were stopped by a train.

The train depot is framed by an old caboose that no longer is in operation. 

In fact...
Seeing the caboose used to be a treat,
but now the trailing car is obsolete.
