Purple Cows, lunar landscapes, clean sheets

A relatively good night’s sleep, which I put down to the beneficial effects of the massage. I was still a little tender in several areas – not sure about the cupping, but who am I to argue with IV? – and a bit unfocused. Maybe she can work on my head next time round.

I’m still in the mode where I can manage to get one thing done a day and see that as an achievement. I have no idea what is causing this. One of the things IV was talking about yesterday – and I only really scratched the surface of all the new age-related talk, I tuned a lot of it out – was the effects of male menopause. “Men get it too, you know,” she said. And I do know about it, but am sort of pretending it doesn’t happen, hasn’t happened, and won’t happen to me. But it might explain the long-term fogginess I have had. There again, having lost my sense of smell early doors in the Covid pandemic, so might long Covid.

Anyway, I can still function, so maybe that is all in my head. Today, however, I was a little “off”. I did some minor stuff, drove up to Navan to do a vegetable run and to pick up some steaks from Lavergne’s, came back and sort of vegged. I have decided to give the cabbage soup diet a go for a week. I’ve done it before, and the main advantage I can see is that it clears you out, but if the weight is really the cause of the inflammation and pain, then it would be stupid to ignore it and this can give me a good head start. I expect to look like Mackenzie Crook in a week.

Back from Navan, I drove Ottawacker Jr. to his friend Caelan’s for a quick visit, then went to pick him up so I could subsequently drive him to his penultimate game of the season out at Atrium Park in Riverside South. They were due to play Ottawa FC, which is actually a repurposed futsal club, in a rescheduled game. Atrium Park resembled a lunar landscape (extra); whatever the property taxes are used for over here, it isn’t to maintain the parks. OISC had played OFC in a couple of tournaments earlier in the year – both of which were rather feisty events. While OISC had won both games, they were quite close, so nobody was expecting an easy ride. In the end, though, it was pretty straightforward. Ottawacker Jr.’s team won 5-0 and are still on to maintain second place in the league.

Unable to ignore the clamour for ice cream, a group of us went to Purple Cow on Colonnade, standing in the growing chill while the boys sat and enjoyed the fruits of their labours. Thank God school starts up again next week.
