Oban

Back blip

Claudia and I  left after walking Django and headed towards Oban, though had decided to do a bit of sightseeing en route so went via Loch Lomond. The weather was beautiful. We had booked a cheap room for two nights, as a base. It was almost lunchtime when I spotted the Drovers Inn, at the top of Loch Lomond and thought that it would be a good place for lunch. It is a very old pub (it claims that Rob Roy at stayed there), with a quirky atmosphere, it even has a stuffed haggis. We had a decent lunch there.
The next stop was the beautiful St Conan's Kirk - an unusual church in beautiful setting on the shores of Loch Awe (extra) . We spent a good hour there.
The on to Oban itself. We found the place we had booked in a slightly grotty part of Oban well away from the centre. It was a strange place, with no sign at all. We then spotted a note saying that if we hadn't received any instruction about the key, we should go to their partner hotel in the centre and paid the extra deposit to get the key - I hadn't heard of a deposit. At the hotel, they confirmed that there was an extra deposit in case we damage something., then the lady offered us a room at the hotel instead, since it was empty, and she would do it at the same price (and also waved the deposit). This was a far better option and we gladly took it. We then walked around Oban, up to McCaig's Tower with great views. In the evening, we had fish and chips then listened to the local school's pipe band giving a concert by the port.
