Rhyl

FRIDAY

A bright but cooler day today.

I had a few errands to run, so I headed over to Rhyl to check out the new promenade. It’s just reopened this week after a lot of work on the sea defences. First impressions – it’s really good! Nice and wide, smooth underfoot, and loads of space for walkers, runners, and cyclists. I still think it could do with a few more touches such as kiosks with seaside essentials like fish and chips, coffee and buckets and spades.

I also had a wander around the Marine Lake. It was busy, with families crabbing and kids enjoying rides on the miniature railway, which has been running for over 114 years.

The main photo is of the little loco Billie, built around 1922 by Barnes for the Dreamland Miniature Railway in Margate.

The extra shots show the new bit of promenade and people having fun on the dodgems nearby.

Rhyl often looks drab, but with the new promenade, the newly opened Queen’s Market food hall, people on the beach, a few brave ones swimming, and also the sunshine out, it actually felt quite cheerful today.
