Thank you Sallie

We arrived at Calais early, hoping to get a ferry 4 hours earlier than the one we were booked on (we had a flexi 4-hour ticket). Somehow picked the slowest queue for check-in, when we got to check-in we had the loveliest guy, who was clearly having a bad day full of rude Brits. He was very sorry as the port was so busy and couldnt get us on a sailing earlier than the 3pm we were booked on - this was at 9.15 in the morning. Gutting, but nothing he could do about it. However, he said he would try something, and not book us onto any ferry - instead, he made a call to the harbour manager and gave us instructions of where to find her when we made it through customs. Hour and a half later, the husband went to the harbour manager for P&O, we had assumed several people would have been given the same instructions, but no. Separate queue of our own,  husband came running out of the office having been told that Sallie had put us on the midday sailing. We went to another queue - well, on our own at the front of all the other queuing cars and were first on, and first off the ferry. We have no idea why we were treated so well, aside from the pleasentaries with the lovely check-in guy. We waved at Sallie as we boarded the ferry and thanked her very much.

So we're home, everyone happy to be home, everyone tired and happy to be in our own beds.
