LGK, Prodigal Cat-Son: Soaking Up the Summer Sun

LGK, the neighbor kitty, has been quite scarce during the summer months. He is no fan of the heat, and I can respect that. But about the time the monarch caterpillars start to get fat and sassy, the cat typically returns. And so he did. He showed up one evening a week or so ago for a short visit and he's been back a few times since. He may have lost a pound or two since he's been gone.

Let me admit this first: this day began with two disappointments. One is that one of our very few red tomatoes disappeared overnight from our tomato plants in the front yard. The other is that they had Boy Scout hoagies* for sale at the local daycare (first Penn State home game of the season!) but they ran out before my husband got there on his bike. Rats!

So we were pondering as to who or what might have purloined the one red tomato we'd been watching for a while. (Yes, we ATE that first one that was so anticipated, and one since. But so far, that's been our entire tomato crop for the year!) And we were - sadly - hoagie-less. Not starving, but not happy about the whole situation.

And then our little visitor showed up, and he was a sight for sore eyes. He hung out on the porch for a while and then moved down into the driveway where my husband was sitting in a chair. LGK wound around his legs, rolled and rolled in the sun in the driveway, and then lay there between my husband's feet like he owned this place, and this person.

So here, for today, is our blip-moment: a happy photo of the return of our prodigal cat-son, airing it out, soaking up the rays of the late summer sun, as August gets ready to turn into September. Soak it up, buddy. Soak it up! Our soundtrack song is Sheryl Crow, with Soak Up the Sun.

*A hoagie is a huge sandwich made of meat and cheese and veggies.
