AN EXCITING NEW SEASON IS STARTING FOR GHBC...
...and an exciting week for the world!
We had a great service at Church this morning and coincidentally, or was it? - the speaker Jide, was the same person who preached at the first service of our interregnum over three years ago, and the last one to speak before our new Minister, Mick, is inducted next Saturday. Mind you, Jide stumped most of us by asking if we remembered what he had preached on three years ago! Well could you remember something from that long ago?
Mr. HCB and I were Stewards this morning, which means we “meet and greet” those who come through the front and back doors of the Church and we look out for newcomers too. There is always a hubbub in the foyer, which is great to hear, and an air of expectation. It was even more pronounced today when Jide arrived with about 5 minutes to spare! I think that Julie, who was the Duty Deacon today, was more pleased to see him than most, because if the speaker for the day doesn’t arrive the Duty Deacon has to give the sermon!
It was a great sermon and Jide spoke about “Knowing your Season and Keeping Up With God.” He said this would be a new season for us as a Church, with our new Minister coming and that we need to “Stand on Christ, the solid rock”. He made several good points - and I think I will need to go back and listen to them again on catch-up.
One important point he made was about Prayer and he echoed the words of Mark, who was leading the service today that we don’t need “fancy words” but we need to come just as we are.
That fitted in very well with what will be happening in our Church for the next week, and which I have tried to show you in my collage.
From tomorrow, 1st September, we will be participating in the “Global Week of Prayer” when Christians all over the world are invited to pray non-stop for every nation on earth. Our Church has set up a Prayer Room and you can see some of the Prayer Stations in my collage. It should be a great week and we are looking forward to it. It is exciting to think that prayers will be going up all over the world every hour, minute and second of every day for 7 days.

Hope you all have a great week - we had quite a lot of rain yesterday afternoon, which was great to see, but we still need more especially if our rivers, reservoirs and canals are to be filled up before the winter. M xx
