The Spoils
I was on my own at the allotment today. It surprises me how few people are there on a glorious sunny morning.
It's the season of plenty. There was much to bring home, too, courgettes, beans, peas, potatoes, apples, kale, chard, and sweetcorn. I've also got a beautiful bouquet made from dill flowers and carrot tops, wild, frothy, and fragrant.
I shared my spoils with my girl today. She's not well and has been on her own all weekend. She was a little stir crazy by the time I arrived. I sat in the garden, keeping my distance. I stocked the fridge and hung up the washing. She was feeling quite sorry for herself, poor lamb. Her man will be home by now, Im sure his face will lift her spirits.
It takes a while to clean, cook, blanche, or store the various veg I bring home each week, but it's important to keep up with it. Otherwise, you could lose some and given the effort to grow them, I hate to lose anything.
