An ordinary life....

The coo and the starling...

Sunday is most definitely a day of rest in the Outer Hebrides so we had a lazy morning

The colour of the sea in Uig Bay was amazing (see extra)  Couldn't tear myself away!  We made good use of our new binoculars and watched someone flying a kite on the beach and three dogs having a ball running into the waves.  What a perfect day for it.  The wind could have knocked you horizontal but it was eighteen degrees so warm enough to just need a hoodie or a jumper.

For lunch we had a full Scottish breakfast.  Delicious and set us up for the day.  We decided to drive along the Atlantic cost as far as the road goes (it just eventually peters out)  The weather was changeable turning grey, cloudy and moody, then the sun would appear and the sea would change from choppy green to turquoise.  The mountains around here are bereft of vegetation and trees, all rock and stone.  It's like seeing under their skin to the solid skeleton below (see extra) When the sun hits them the rock comes alive, shiny, craggy and majestic.

On the way back along the coast road we met the small heard of coos that had been further up the hill when we passed earlier.  They were very friendly and happy to pose.  The wee starling was hoping around their feet then stopped to pose too.

On the return journey we stopped at the wooden sculpture of the King from the Lewis chessmen.  Perhaps to be blipped another day.

Stopped to admire the view for a while and breathe in some pure Hebridean air, before returning to the wee cottage.  We were only back about five minutes when the mist descended and the rain poured down.  Great timing.  Ten minutes later and the sun was out and the beach was sparkling white, then suddenly mist and rain again.  It's so fascinating to watch the weather change so quickly.

Dinner and an evening of easy watch tv.  A blissful day.
