Day 6, almost rest

I know that falling into bed so early would mean a broken night but didn't realise how impossible it would be to get back to sleep. Ended up giving in and doing stuff on the laptop, including buying tickets for the Traverse's PPP autumn season.

As breakfast finished at 9 I had to be up by just after 8. Decided on a bacon roll. It was ginormous. Very filling.

Before going out I sat in the conservatory and started moving this holiday's photos into a folder before setting off for Inverewe.

First another nostalgic side trip to Big Sand where we camped about 30 years ago. Inverewe wasn't busy and the threatened rain came to nothing. I had a slow walk round with many stops for quiet contemplation. The exhibition in the house was very interesting and the views, when the sun broke through, stunning.

On a whim I decided to take the road on the other side along to Cove. Beautiful beaches and fabulous views back to Inverewe and the mountains.

Next was the pilgrimage in memory of 1964 right along to Red Point. That repeated my first stay in NW Scotland when my dad got his first car and we journeyed slowly north (pre Forth Road Bridge) to stay in Nairn then across to Badachro.  The views across to Torridon and Rassay were also stunning as were the rain clouds over Skye. Stopped Badachro for a wee walk and sample some more brambles. I tried to work which house was Granny's B& B where we stayed but the houses have all been modernised beyond recognition.

Back to Gairloch and the hotel for a coffee and the second shortbread biscuits (no lunch today) and then back to the conservatory to see, talk to some other guests and enjoy a very nice Badachro Gin and tonic before dinner.

I returned there for a wee bit after but once again all that food and single track roads caught up with me and it was another early night.
