Life's Little Moments

Lycidae

Commonly called a net-wing beetle, or banded net-wing beetle but easily mistaken for a moth, especially one of THESE.  The antennae are a good diagnostic tool since they are segmented which is typical of beetles.  Anyway, first one I've seen this year and worth grabbing a shot especially since it was sitting nicely on some milkweed.

All of the hummingbirds are still in the garden but any day now, they will start leaving.  In the meantime, I'm enjoying seeing and hearing them zoom around the garden.

I'm having a flair of rheumatoid arthritis right now so decided not to dig up any more phlox.  It can wait and I need my hands to feel better before the weekend when I'm shooting a dog event.  So instead I contented myself with deadheading some things, and generally pottering around.  It's another absolutely gorgeous day and it's lovely to be outside.

Today is Labor Day in the United States, celebrating the labor movement and the American workforce.  The first Labor Day parade was held in NYC in 1882, but it was not until 1894 that President Grover Cleveland declared it a Federal holiday.

And adding a shot in Extra of a Worm-eating Warbler that I spotted late this afternoon - adding to my yardbirds list.  Not a species I often see so bonus to have it in my garden.
