u3a Day
Mixed weather today - it was quite dry and bright when my friend Sue and I set off at 10am to walk down to the Corran Halls for the Open Morning where members or potential members meet and chat or find new groups to join. I was persuaded to be a meeter and greeter which involves making sure that people sign in and then directing them to the group tables of their choice. My Blip today is the hall in the early stages of the meeting.
I was also persuaded by the other two remaining members of the Creative Writing group to wear a special badge to draw attention to our cause - my extra today!
I haven't yet spoken to the member manning our desk, but I think we did get some interest. Must find out! After this was our AGM which was much the same as any other AGMs!
After lunch was our Poetry Group meeting at a member's house, which was fun. The theme for poetry to be read out was Pictures, which included poems about pictures of any kind, fine art, photographs or whatever. My choice was The Photograph, by Thomas Hardy. I slipped another one in just for a laugh -
Hanging a Picture - by Lanier Thomas.
“Let’s hang this heavy picture,”
I heard my wife say to me.
Giving her a claw hammer
I put a steel nail up high.
“When I nod my head, hit it.”
…That’s the last thing I recall.
Ha! Very funny! I also slipped in a couple of my limericks. Here's one -
A young poetess named Clarisse
Loved a painting of birds by Matisse.
But the use of A.I.
Caused her poem to die
As it read ‘Please release obese geese’!
OK, that's enough. Came home in sunshine followed by heavy rain!
