More family stuff
This morning our plans changed in view of forecast rain. We caught a bus to Euston and went to the Wellcome Collection on Euston Road. This is a fascinating place ‘connecting science, medicine, life and art’ but we haven’t been for a long time. And today we were there for a special exhibition - Thirst : In Search of Freshwater.
A very interesting, and at times quite alarming, exhibition exploring humanity’s vital connection with freshwater as an essential source of life and pillar of good health. Different aspects are described, from Aridity, and the search for water in drought conditions, through to Rain and Floods, Glaciers and Surface Water, where scarcity can be as a result of the poor quality of the water for many reasons.
How precious is freshwater and yet we take it so much for granted. A very worthwhile exhibition which for me linked the work of Robert Macfarlane and Elif Shafak, whose books I have recently read and who both write in the little book that goes with the exhibition and whose messages are so apt for our current situation. Good cafe at the Centre too!
But my blip has to be Joanne and Greg. We later met up with them in Highgate for a celebratory meal. Greg has a special birthday coming up and we had planned to celebrate with him whilst we were in London. We had a super meal at a lovely place. What a wonderful evening we had. It is unlikely that we will see them again for a while, as they continue the celebrations with family and friends and then go on an Australian adventure. Great to spend time with them.
