Periscoping

Out early today and it was freezing. Not literally, but cold enough that if I'd brought gloves I would have worn them. I thought that yesterday's winds might have blown in a few migratory warblers, maybe they did but it was too cold for little birds to be out hunting for insects.

Luckily I found something else to entertain me at the lake - otters! I think this is the time of year when young otters go exploring - when I'm out looking for fall warblers seems to be the time when I'm most likely to see them. They stayed mostly under water, but I did catch one of them stretching its head up - called 'periscoping' for obvious reasons.
