First Day
Truth to tell, I didn’t take this shot, but it was taken today. Always in the past, on the first day of school, our granddaughters sent a picture of their outfit for the day. Today was different. Only one of them had a first day of school, and that was Elle on the first official day of her teaching career. We are beyond proud of her. How cool that she is teaching in a district where both of her grandparents taught their first few years. She is going to be a good one.
Teaching is the most noble of professions, there’s no debate, and nothing even close. Teachers see every walk of life in their desks, all mixed in together, and they are supposed to make it work, and make sense, for an hour, or less, or more, every day for a whole year. More times than not, the year comes out something miraculous, even with all of the shitty days thrown in, because there will be SO MANY shitty days, maybe more than otherwise days.
But there will be those days, or maybe just one day, that tells you, I made a difference here. That’s why you stay with it, why you know you are doing the best work in the world.
Elle will do this best work, and as a teacher, I am so happy and proud of her. Teach ‘em up, Elle.
