Looking down
We were up early today catching a coach to Kissamos. From there it was a boat to Gramvousa a small island about an hour away. As you approach you can see the Venetian Fort at the top of the island. It’s also known as a Pirates island in more recent times. We did visit here many years ago when the children were young.
We climbed up to the top along the well defined pathway. There were magnificent views including this one looking down from the top. We wandered around the various buildings and small towers before returning down.
After this we sailed to nearby Balos which is known for its turquoise blue waters and also a shallow lagoon. We had a paddle in both the sea and lagoon but it was time to return to the boat when we realised it was easiest to swim at the far end of the lagoon where the water was deeper.
It was then a journey back to Rethymno. We chose not to go out to eat in the evening as we were fairly tired and it was getting late but had enough snacks with us in our accommodation. An enjoyable day.
