Our Yorkshire Duchess.
Our Yorkshire Duchess passed away today aged 92.
Born Katherine Lucy Mary Worsley was born at Hovingham Hall in 1933.
She married Prince Edward, Duke of Kent in 1961.
They chose not to marry in Westminster Abbey or St Paul’s Cathedral but at York Minster.
She worked tirelessly to help others and supported many causes, including through her love of music.
In the 1990s she was music teacher at Wansbeck Primary School, Hull. To the children she was just ordinary Mrs Kent.
For many years she presented the trophies at Wimbledon.
She will be remembered for her dignity and quiet compassion, and as a reluctant royal, who eventually decided that her true path lay in teaching children to love music.
My beautiful rose is for you.
