Old Canberra

The Church of St John the Baptist in the inner-city Canberra suburb of Reid is one of the oldest buildings in the national capital. It was built in 1845, some 66 years before the surrounding area was chosen to be the site of the future city.

The majestic old gum tree in the lower photo is surely much older than the church and colonial settlement.

I lived in the suburb for nearly 30 years and, today, enjoyed a return visit.
