The final fill…..
A day spent combining oats. By the time I got the combine out the shed , filled with diesel , brought along the road from next door , put the header on and got started cutting it was half 11.
Wee brother came and took over at 1pm while I carted in to the shed. He left to check his calving cows at 6 pm so I was back in the combine . Had it all cut by 7 pm and just like that harvest 2025 is done…. if you don’t count the 45 acres of straw still to bale , the 200 odd bales still to haul home from Gorebridge and the sheds full of grain needing sorted .
Still , 6 Sep is a lot quicker than normal. Last year we didn’t finish cutting until the 4th of October . In 2023 it was the 10th . Just shows what a difference dry weather makes.
