Two Heads Are Better Than One

I think this is a Muscovy duck. It's such a gentle creature and is usually to be found near the Sir Hugh Middleton monument at Great Amwell. Sir Hugh financed and drove the New River project to fruition.

It is four hundred years next month since the water from the New River first flowed into the great cistern at the New River Head in Islington. What a feat of engineering it is. A man-made, spring-fed channel that flows by gravity for twenty-seven miles with a constant fall of five inches per mile to provide fresh water for London.

The Amwell locals have erected a board bearing the likeness of Sir Hugh in readiness for the celebrations at Michaelmas and I noticed the other day that it was reflected in the water and decided to go and shoot it. Love that I got lovely duck in shot. :)
