hover bover

I was in two minds about posting this one today, as I reckon as far as pictures of hover-flies go, then this earlier post by Southside Snapper is the cream of today's crop in my opinion.

But, as there was so many of the wee buggers buzzing around in the sunshine I couldn't help taking loads of pictures of them. This one was was my favourite as it caught a female marmalade fly (I even looked that up - blip's turning out a good educational tool too!) trying to squeeze onto a flower already occupied by three others. You can tell it's a female as it doesn't have holoptic eyes. But all you clever blippers knew that already, didn't you?
