The Edge of the Wold

First sunset of the autumn

You would think that after 3 plus years of blipping, I would have got better at predicting good sunsets. I didn't see this coming. It had been grey, overcast and windy all day, with a partial clearance in the early evening and a glimpse of the sun through tiny gaps in the cloud. Then after the sun had gone down, the cloudy sky gradually coloured up, and the choppy waters of the Kent estuary went red. The lesser black-backed gull took to flight in time to provide the obligatory solitary gull in flight.

Chris and Sue left for Somerset at about 5 pm, after a weekend of uncomplaining toil as we prepared the house and food for Wifie's second birthday bash yesterday. They had driven all the way from Somerset in the usual stop-go Friday night M5/M6 traffic, arriving after 10 pm. Rather than fall into bed, they set to blowing up 60 balloons ready for Saturday morning. Wifie has such good friends.

Anyway, Wifie had a brilliant day, and the weather was kind to her, the last day of Summer really was a Summer's day, while today has been positively autumnal. I shall back blip yesterday's sometime during the week as time permits, and it may well feature Maggie's magnificent cake..
