Where the Two Rivers Meet

The North Thompson meets
the South Thompson and the two
become the Thompson.

In a race to the
Pacific Ocean it joins
the Fraser River.

*The muddy North Thompson brings its load down to Kamloops where it blends with the blue South Thompson. The South Thompson is clear because it flows out of the big Shuswap Lake to the east which works as a settling basin. The North Thompson comes right out of the mountains.
The Thompson Rivers are named for David Thompson, an explorer of Welsh parentage. Born in London, England (1770), he apprenticed with the Hudson's Bay Company at age 14 and never returned. He has been called the "greatest land geographer who ever lived" having mapped 1/5 of North America.
** Note the sagebrush in bloom in the foreground. (yellow blossoms) September is the month for this!
