Historical Day

The 1st of September and the weather certainly changed dramatically today. Not because there was any rain but for the wind. We headed south to visit Edzell Castle and the House of Dun. By the early evening, when we were heading back to Aberdeen the wind had become quite ferocious, and small branches broken off trees were scattered across the road.

We had arrived at House of Dun, a National Trust property, about 4:30. The last tour had already started, but the lady in the ticket office took us in and we joined up with the tour, which actually comprised on woman from USA. The guide from the NTS gave us a really excellent tour. He said he works for the council and only does this work for NTS at weekends. The tour concluded at about 5:30, 30 minutes after they were supposed to be closed. His enthusiasm was obvious and infectious.

The picture is taken in the walled garden looking at a side view of the building. Even in the shelter of the walled garden it was pretty draughty.
